Disaster Management

Disaster management is a field dealing with natural or man-made disasters and finding solutions to avoid such risks in the shortest possible time. It also includes post disaster responses like emergency evacuation, mass decontamination, logistic support and rebuilding societies. Such prompt actions help in saving hundreds of lives and protect public utility properties.

One such disaster is related to Dam breach which causes catastrophic flooding in the lower reaches resulting in loss of life and property. Remote Sensing in conjunction with hydrological models have been successfully used to model flood prediction and inundation with respect to time and distance in an event of dam break. Such studies help in the identification and delineation of areas prone to immediate flooding which can be further supplemented with property data for that leading to evacuation and rescue in a timely and swift manner.

As an effort towards disaster management programs we  engaged in critical projects like Dam Breach Analysis which causes catastrophic flooding in the lower reaches resulting in loss of life and property. Remote Sensing in conjunction with Hydrological model has been successfully used to model flood prediction and inundation with respect to time in case of a dam breach. This is useful in disaster management programs and pre-planning for the safety of life and property.
