Vehicle Tracking Sytem

A vehicle tracking system combines the installation of an electronic device in a vehicle, or fleet of vehicles, with purpose-designed computer software to enable the owner or a third party to track the vehicle's location, collecting data in the process. Vehicle tracking systems use Global Positioning System (GPS) technology for locating the vehicle, Vehicle information can be viewed on electronic maps via the Internet or specialized software.

Where & why is it useful?

We have developed the VTS for essential commodity transportation management and is essentially a social justice support intent for Civic administrations. Currently Kerosene oil tankers are being tracked

What is the process of this work we follow at STP?

We get indents from District Administration and Kerosene oil tanker owners purchase the unit directly from Park. Our incubatee installs it and the management is done by the BPO established at the Growth Lab. Currently the position and route & geo-fencing of specific tankers are in place and very soon the product will be used to transmit level of  kerosene in the tanker.

Who all are using it as of now, our clientele?

Kerosene Tanker Dealers in District Supply Office

What are the future plans?

Extend the facility to other fleet management options like tour operators, Fire, Solid Waste Management Water Supply. A personnel tracker is also planned.

Science and Technology Park through its incubation program has introduced a Vehicle Tracking System that combines the installation of an electronic device in a vehicle, or fleet of vehicles, with purpose-designed computer software to enable the owner or a third party to track the vehicle's location, collecting data in the process. It uses Global Positioning System (GPS) technology for locating the vehicle, vehicle information can be viewed on electronic maps via the internet. The Facility is being considered as a key input of e-governance initiatives in Urban Local Bodies for Essential Commodity Movement, Public Transport, Police and Security Vehicle Fleet Management etc .

A robust Vehicle Locator unit which has been specially designed for use in Indian working environment is installed in each vehicle. This unit has a GPS chip which receives precise information of latitude, longitude and speed of that vehicle from satellites; it also has a SIM card which enables it to send this information over the cell phone GPRS network to the server located at the Base Station.

A web based software application enables the designated supervisors to log into the Base Station server from their own computers and use digital maps to view vehicles & preset various parameters such as routes, speeds, spots etc. to be followed by the drivers. If there are any deviations from the parameters set by the supervisor, the software sends alerts by SMS to designated persons. it also produces a number of useful management reports on periodic basis.

Role of Administrator: The user may designate an administrator who is required to create and update a database of various parameters such as:

  • User ID (whether oil tanker, fire brigade, ambulance etc.)
  • Registration numbers of all vehicles in the fleet ( Vehicle ID )
  • Insurance details of each vehicle
  • SIM card numbers of all Blue boxes ( Unit ID )
  • Allocation of SIM cards to vehicle registration numbers
  • Names of authorized supervisors who may access Bluepac.
  • Names and personal details of drivers
  • Specifying phone numbers of persons to be alerted

The above database is desired to be kept updated at all times since many of the reports generated by the system would be referring to the above data.

Role of Supervisor : The supervisors who have been designated by the administrator as authorized persons are required to create and update various operational details such as:

  • Allocation of drivers to each vehicle
  • Defining zones on the map
  • Defining routes on the map
  • Defining spots on the map
  • Allocating vehicles to routes, zones & spots
  • Defining start duty and end duty time of drivers
  • Specifying maximum speed
  • Specifying maximum idle time
  • Initiating action on receipt of alerts

The above database must be kept updated at all times since many of the reports generated by the system would be referring to the above data.

Features and Alerts:

The Vehicle Tracking System is designed and integrated to provide unparalleled features & alerts to the user such as:

  • Display of moving vehicle on digital map
  • Simultaneous display of movement of several vehicles on the digital map
  • Display of route travel history on the digital map
  • Display of all alerts on the map
  • If the vehicle’s speed exceeds the permissible limit, an over speed alert will be generated.
  • If the vehicle deviates from specified route, a route deviation alert will be generated.
  • If the vehicle deviates from specified zone, a zone deviation alert will be generated.
  • If the vehicle deviates from pick up / drop off spots, a spot deviation alert will be generated.
  • If the vehicle remains idle for longer than a specified period, an idle alert will be generated.
  • If the vehicle is being stolen, a theft alert will be generated.
  • If an emergency situation arises in the vehicle, a panic / SOS alert can be sent by the driver.
  • At any point of time the supervisor can listen in to the conversation in the driver’s cabin.

Standard Reports Generated

The standard reports generated are given below:

  • Detailed activity report
  • Start stop report
  • Begin end report
  • Alerts report
  • Alerts summary report
  • Fleet status report
  • Fleet alerts report
  • Fleet summary report
  • Vehicle maintenance report

Above reports can be generated either vehicle wise or driver wise. Reports can be obtained for any specified period between a specified start date and specified end date. The default period for some reports is 1 day ( 00.00 Hrs to 00.00 Hrs ) while for others it is 1 week.

At user’s request, the software can be modified to generate customized reports tailored to user’s needs. Such customization will be done at extra costs.

Data is stored on the Base Station server for a maximum period of 60 days, after which it has to be backed up by the user.

Standard software is included with the system at no additional initial cost. However, monthly software service charge is payable for each unit purchased. Software services include the following:

  • Customized web access with unique user name & password.
  • Software integration of GIS maps
  • Software application for tracking of vehicle
  • Connectivity of the Bluebox with the server & tracking application.
  • GIS maps for tracking application
  • Software to generate MIS reports.
  • Maintenance of GIS tracking application
  • Maintenance of software
  • Maintenance of servers hosting the application
  • 24 X 7 customer care support

The system uses a SIM card and network of any existing cell phone service provider in order to transmit and receive GPRS information about the vehicles. Third party cell phone service providers charge monthly fees, which are included in our monthly software services cost.

Third party web hosts charge monthly web hosting charges which are also included in our monthly software services cost.

Call Centre Service

A control room with call centre service shall be provided by our local franchisees who are trained in installation, operation, repairs and service support to ensure that the system works efficiently. The call center will also provide coordination with the mobile & web operators in the region and assist the user in the monthly payments for the web hosting and mobile connectivity services.
